Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 69.5/100, a mean average of 67.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 68.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.9.

They actually play their instruments and write songs this time around, and prove how awful their music is with brutal clarity.

Their debut was a fun little album made up of some pretty fun pop songs with simple lyrics and structures. This at first seems like more of the same but the act has worn thin, as the lyrics here go from simple to uninteresting and the instrumentation is lackluster. I won't say I don't like it but I will say it's one of the most uninteresting albums that I have no strong feelings about that I've ever heard.

I cant stand this. However I know people from cali who spin this album all the time. I guess you just have to be from there. My problem is the lyrics, cheesy, unintelligent, as well as repetitive. we have fun we have fun we have fuuun..? not enjoyable at all for me.

This music is light-hearted indie california sorta-surfer pop made for lounging on the coast just watching the waves come in. (You might've heard the best track "the only place" advertising windows 8 / surface.) The title track is an ecstatic celebration of living beside the ocean ("why would you live anywhere else?") and sets the tone, but some of the songs (like "how they want me to be") are lazy, sunny afternoon tracks. "let's go home" sounds like they recorded the following extended jam of the title track. If you're into tuneful, peppy-wussy surfers, then check this out.

It's unclear to me what everyone was expecting from this album that has them so disappointed. I wasn't initially taken with Dreaming My Life Away, but the rest of the record is good enough that it deserves better than its 118 rank for the year. Frankly, I don't see what the big deal is about Cloud Nothings
