Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 71.5/100, a mean average of 70.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 71.4/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.2.

The new Bruce Springsteen from UK has abandoned the punk roots and has embraced a new shiny pop formula.

Wish I connected with it the way others have but politics you agree with ≠ good art. I think this album is lame and boring, sorry

People saying he is the new Springsteen. I think he sounds more like a cross between Ryan Adams and Bleachers.

Sam Fender (PW - UK - Feb 25) - People Watching

21.02.25

I've never really understood the fascination with Sam Fender other than he is under 30 and uses a guitar...and only one of those 'qualities' is still true.

He clearly resonates with many, as the moving comment below shows.

It's just a bit clean and North Shields Springsteen tribute act to me, as the lines between music as an art form and pop become ever more blurry.

So many songs connect in a way that's unexpected for an artist that though aware of I hadn't fallen head over heels for before.

My grandpa is the greatest role model of man in my life. He used to live on the streets, trough construction work he managed to make a life for himself. He never learned to read or write (something far too common for his generation in my country) but married the love of his life. My grandma who was also homeless for a while.

This week he was put in an ICU.

Generational poverty and love for those around you are the two prongs of this record.

Im not from a crumbling empire and as Sam says I don't wear the shoes I used to walk in. However I can't help but understand him.

Call me convinced by his pen, or a glazer but this man can write powerful catchy tunes that will be played for the rest of my life in my home. Hopefully I will have my grandpa with me for longer and these songs will not ring as relatable in the future.

Sorry for getting personal
