The Aboys have done it again!!!
Maybe my album of the year - endlessly inventive, entertaining and thoughtful. My favorite punk album by far.
"viagr aboys" is their most dour record by far. A sense of self-loathing and depression leaks from the lyrics and the mushier production. Energetic tracks like "Man Made of Meat" still features "I hate almost everything that I see, And I just wanna disappear" in the chorus. While this soft underbelly of sadness is intriguing, it doesn't fully disguise some shortcomings. The absurdity of the lyrics has become meaningless at points. At times it feels like they are writing less interesting versions of previous songs. Negativity aside, the bass work remains strong, and it is more good than bad. "Uno II" is an earworm with fantastic backing vocals on the last chorus. "Medicine for Horses" is genuinely moving in how fatalistic it is. It's clear that being scum is not as fun as it used to be.
This is one of those albums where its mainstream success might take a little bit of time, but once it gets there it will be a very important album. If you like music, and you have not listened to this yet, do yourself a favor.

Has its moments and lyrically, it's funny and scathing in equal measures at times. It can get a bit Uppsala frat party on a musical level, and particularly on the trudge to the end after the album's highlight 'Medicine For Horses'. Probably my favourite Viagra Boys album.

A bounceback effort from (the admittedly still remarkably consistent) Cave World, viagr aboys is everything you love about the band: Oddball, anti-establishment lyrics, filthy dance grooves, and a preponderance (read: shit ton) of debaucherous, sweaty, club drug vibes.
