Halou are a trip-hop/electrogaze band from San Francisco who first appeared in 1997 as a trio, consisting of singer Rebecca Coseboom and her husband Ryan Coseboom, along with electronics/production whiz Mikael "Count" Eldridge. They broke up in 2008-ish, at which point the Cosebooms started a somewhat more rock-oriented band called Stripmall Architecture. When that band called it quits in 2014 or so, they re-formed Halou with some other folks, and after another 10 years released this EP, which is actually more of a mini-album and sounds more like Stripmall Architecture than anything else they've released as Halou. Their records under both names have been consistently good though, and this one is no exception — if there's a criticism to be made, it's that they don't seem to write songs with catchy, memorable pop hooks in them. That's not to say they lack melodicism or musicality or nice beats, since there's plenty of all that. It's one of those situations where if you know them, you probably like them, but... not a lot of people know them. (Edited)
