Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 3% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 77.4/100, a mean average of 76.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 77.7/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.9.

This is the best of the landscape/horizon album covers. It's also a kickass album

I was recommended this on a shoegaze thread - I know it's been over a year since it was posted - and I finally got to it tonight. I was told it was going to be "slowcore", so my mind instantly went to Galaxie 500 & Yo La Tengo but at first - if I had to make one of my typical comparisons - it reminded me of We Have The Facts And We're Voting Yes - era Death Cab. Nevertheless, as it went on it began to sound more like The Swirlies which I just adored. And then at the end - when things got more experimental & "wall-of-sound" - it sounded exactly as I pictured in the beginning. Big thanks to whoever recommended this and I'll totally be coming back (will likely end up getting it on vinyl, if that's an option).

Absolutely /gorgeous/ textures going on here, almost gave this an instant 100/100, but alas it wasn't *quite* that good. Really though probably the most resonant first listen ever.
