Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 23% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 73.6/100, a mean average of 72.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 73.7/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.8.

A great collection of songs for his debut album which is his best album. I'm not a big fan of The Band but you can hear the similarity in the music. I wouldn't say he has a great voice, but he did have some good artist appearing on this album. Even though "Somewhere Down the Crazy River" is considered the best song, "American Roulette" is my favorite. Side one is a must listen. Great Rock - Pop album.
Decent album overpowered by the one great oddball track, "Somewhere Down the Crazy River."
Robbie's not much of singer. Too bad, because the musicians & backup vocalists he got to participate in this project are amazing! A merely good album that could have been incredible with a great vocal stylist.
Strange how The Band rates so highly (240's) but Robbie - a founding mastermind behind The Band - languishes so low. The collection of songs on this debut album are as powerful - perhaps more so - than those of The Band.
Excellent solo album from former band member Robbie Robertson. Excellent song writing, playing, and production create a fantastic album that takes the listener on a terrific journey. Transports the listener to a tranquil place of robertsons creation. Standout tracks: Broken Arrow, somewhere down the crazy river, and fallen angel.
My favorite songs : Testimony.....Fallen angel.....Sweet fire of love......Showdown at big sky....American roulette
Good album produced by Daniel Lanois and featuring guest appearances by members of U2. Good tracks throughout, but, somewhere down the crazy river, is a classic, film noir and urban folk combined. Good album.
Not a bad debut and probably his best solo record to date.

Very good solo effort, his first after the Band, with songs like "Fallen Angel", "Broken Arrow", "Somewhere Down the Crazy River", "Sonny Got Caught in the Moonlight" and "Showdown at Big Sky".
