"Gaspard" is based on three Bertrand poems ..here is the text in French and English:

The Chopin sonata is not very good...the Prokofiev is much better, both very difficult pieces to play, but not nearly as difficult as "Gaspard".

"Gaspard de la Nuit" is one of the five greatest works for solo piano (along with Beethoven's Hammerklavier sonata, Prokofiev's Toccata, Bach's Goldberg variations and the Liszt sonata), maybe the greatest. Ravel's genuis becomes more apparent when you play this piece. it is in 3 sections: "Ondine", "Le Gibet" and "Scarbo". Pagorelic gets everything possible out of this piece. His performance is much more muscular and sexual than most over the top impressionistic interpretations. If you ever wanted to step into great piano performances, this would be a good place to start...or you can hear Scarbo and Ondine on this page
