Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 1% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 80.6/100, a mean average of 79.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 80.7/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.9.

Very possibly their best album. Has a toe dipped in the Progressive Metal camp! Rime of the Ancient Mariner makes the album!

Their true masterpieces, even though The Duelist and Back in the Village are not as great at the rest, the other songs are all brilliant and diverse.

An outstanding beginning and end to this album make this well worth a listen especially with the volume turned up very high. The riffs and guitar solos on here are just fantastic as they are so filled with energy and passion that you can't help but love them. It is such a influential release because of this as I can imagine the huge number of people that listened to the instrumentation on here and picked up a guitar or bass in response to it. Overall, this is a must listen in the metal genre and is one of the groups greatest releases.

A piece of great influential progressive power metal. The electric guitar and drums work is just amazing. I really love first 3 and last 2 tracks - more than a half of the record.

The album that inspired me to learn bass. Steve Harris does amazingly well on here!

Surprised myself with how much I dug this album as metal is far from my usual shtick. The anthemic riffs, solos and power chords utterly kick some serious butt

If you can’t be bothered listening to the entire album (and really you should) then at the very least power up the final two tracks in “Powerslave” and “Rime of the Ancient Matiner” and crank that volume dial up to 11

Epic !

Along with 'Number of the Beast' this is easily Maiden's greatest other album. Every song is absolute metal bliss. The start of them venturing into a bit of prog metal with 'Rime of the Ancient Mariner' was an ultimate success. A must for any metal fan.
