Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 78.3/100, a mean average of 78.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 78.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.4.

This album sounds like a combination of Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush stuff from around the same time period, with a few more synth flourishes but lacking some melodic cohesion.

The first cinematic and neon lit masterpiece from the Blue Nile. Like it's successor, hats, it's that perfect late night album, at the time between midnight and dawn. Romantic and lovely.

Totally agree with previous comment - for those of you who like the Blue Nile may I politely ask you to listen to this -their break-through album which as I remember as one of the best of the 1980s. The classic tracks of which I estimate to there to be at least 4 (they identify themselves) are even now still thrilling to listen to. I seem to recall waiting forever for the follow-up which disappointed me so much as such a strong debut hinted at a group with immense potential. However this is their moment in the Sun.

Epic stuff. Can't believe that this is not considered their best album on here!
