And sometimes you are trying to describe the sound of a certain musician by explaning: He is the (...new, young, former, italian, german, russian, folky, whatever...)TOM WAITS.
So here is the TOM CLUB:
If there were a genre "TOM WAITS" this is the music you could probably find there.

two words - Mark Lanegan :) - from wikipedia - known for his baritone voice, which was described as being "as scratchy as a three-day beard yet as supple and pliable as moccasin leather" and has been compared to Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen and Nick Cave.

"Yellow Shark" of Frank Zappa js not my choice.
It is among Tom Waits´ favourite Top 20 albums.
The first 20 slbums of this chart are Tom Waits´ Top 20.
