Who can deny this? One of the earliest concept albums and still one of the best. Its psychedelic rock sound drew in a generation of stoners and it's thought provoking lyrics drew in a generation of thinkers. It conquers tough issues about life, war, philosophy, lifestyles, insanity, death and many more, all while having a kick ass extended metaphor that ties it all in with an epic conclusion that still gives me goose bumps even after the thousandth time I've listened to it

Now I know what ur thinking,"some stupid rap album that isn't even widely thought to be the rappers best album is the second best album of all time?" And I understand. I hesitated strongly in picking this album but I couldn't help it. In my eyes there is no other choice. Kendrick Lamar is a 28 year old who grew up in Compton, a place where many other famous rappers grew up such as dr dre or ice cube. He grew popularity in the rap scene bc he was an articulate, meaningful rapper in a time when modern music was essentially void of meaning. He started out underground but completely blew up when his album Good Kid Maad city came out (which, if you ask the average rap fan, is his better album). I'm not going to go into details of the album bc the paragraph is already as long as it is but let's just say that it was a really good album but I had two problems with it
1. It's production was a little poppy on songs like drank
2. It didn't feel like Kendrick had come into his own yet, but on his next album both of these problems were solved. All of the great things about his last album were made better and all of the mediocre things were made great. It was another concept album like gkmc and it also carried a message that is highly relevant to our time. In my opinion this album is hip hops dark side of the moon. It is a concept album that talks about different problems with society, it has a very original jazzy sound that draws in people that aren't even rap fans, it has an extended metaphor that has something to do with the album title and both albums give off depressing vibes throughout until their both met with an epic conclusion. And THE FUCKING CONCLUSION is soo good. Kendrick Lamar... Talks to tupac Shakur. And the poem throughout the album was all dedicated... To tupac Shakur. AND HE TALKS BACK! tupac! There is so much more I wanna say about the album but the best thing for you to do is stop reading at the end of this sentence and buy it!

This album displays Dylan at his lowest. He just had an awful breakup and he hasn't made a really good record in years. However through his depression, he triumphs with this record. It is the folk equivalent of tupac a me against the world but instead of singing about going to jail and getting shot 5 times, this record sings about loneliness and how love can be so tender yet when removed can leave you colder than you were in the beginning. Whenever I'm sad and can't get to sleep I put on this record and always start to doze off by the song Lily rosemary and the jack of hearts
