In my personal experience "If'n" from fIREHOSE was the record of the year since it didn't reach Germany before 1988, "All" from the Descendents was for me an '88 record too out of the same reasons. They add to the US Rock Revival records in the chart as to my personal ongoing discovery of late 60s US-Rock records. Then there was the third wave of Hip Hop and an endless stream of unbelievable House and Acid House 12"es - and the raves, oh the raves, a nice time to be 19, 20. Concerning my old British faves, they suddenly seemed dated, but listening to "Cars and girls" in a French disco made me realize that at least Prefab Sprout were still in my heart - and so I discovered they had again developed a complete new and challenging sound! But it took me years to really understand the value of Sades, Momus' and Siouxsies albums of that year, still they feel to me like "new entries". A wild year. I'm not happy so say that I guess it was all downhill after 1988.
