Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some artists can have several thousand ratings)
This artist is rated in the top 2% of all artists on BestEverAlbums.com. This artist has a Bayesian average rating of 81.6/100, a mean average of 79.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 81.9/100. The standard deviation for this artist is 21.2.

It starts slowly at his first 2 albums and then jump the wave for the rest of the 80's. This generated an oversaturation of his figure, overestimating him until he became someone totally hateful and arrogant. His problems with his record company in the 90's (along with other scandals) made him transform into that type of artist who uses controversy as a means of popularity. Since the album "Come" his creativity began to fade. With his departure from Warner his fans believed that his creativity would finally be unleashed again like in the 80's, but how wrong they were because his soul was sold to Warner, leaving him only his mysticism. From "Emancipation" onwards, their albums were flat and boring ("Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic" sounds like Backstreet Boys). The rest of his post-2000 era was one failed attempt after another to reach an audience while trying to capitalize on his mysticism. Finally, in his post-2010 era, the mysticism that surrounded his figure was the only thing that kept him going, with his concerts without publicity and accompanied only by a piano and his long career.
The material that is still in "The Vault" may feed hungry fans and collectors, but I doubt there will be material from its golden era in the 80's, since its soul isn't there, but in Warner, who will sell that soul to the highest bidder (as in the Sing movies, especially Sing 2 with the terrible cover of Let's Go Crazy).
Even if you like one song or his whole discography, you "feel" something through his music, and that feel you can sense it in, at least, in one song on each album, or in the entire album in their best years.

One of the best artists, showmen, musicians, instrumentalists (guitarists, drummers, pianists/keyboardists, at least) – to come from....well, wherever he came from – of all time. Transcending and influencing genres as well as gathering the fanfare of other established contemporary and future artists (David Bowie, Dave Grohl, George Clinton, Steve Lukather, and Elton John, to name a few, but there are COMPILATIONS of various artists' opinions on him) ever since his inception. Sometimes, he seems otherworldly in his performances and musicianship (hear the 1988 Lovesexy rehearsal – yes, rehearsal, believe it or not, after listening – of "Feel U Up"), but at other times, he's a down-to-earth, charismatic, cool guy (like when he would talk to and have various discussions – about things from religion to philosophy – with his fans at the mall). So enigmatic and mysterious at times, but then goofy/hilarious and accessible at others; well, enigmatic regardless. Akin to what another said, it's as if a classical or romantic composer was born centuries late – or reborn – just in time (for me, at least). Instrumental ability, vocal ability, and range (one of the best, at least out of famous singers; not counting your aunt down the street who "would've gotten a record deal. if only [blah, blah, blah]"). Unfortunately, I'm too young to have been able to go to any of his concerts, let alone see him in his prime (in my opinion, that is from around '87 to the early '90s [perhaps '91?]) or from his get-go (1977/78, "For You), and worst of all, appreciate him at a younger age (to be fair, my parents never really played his music, occasionally save the hits). Truly a gift to this world; if only he (always) had lived a bit longer.

I don't like many of his songs, but boy could he play guitar! His performance on 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps' is sensational. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CdfMh8QgJjA

I agree with all the comments of him being overrated. I listened to the "Dirty Mind" record with great expectations cause I read about how great it was from a chart I liked, but turned out to be a plain and dull record.
While I can't get into a lot of his stuff, I recognize his immense talent. Purple rain is a perfect album, and pretty much all of his eighties stuff is amazing. Oh yeah, and he could shred a good guitar

I like Purple Rain and some of the singles, (Little Red Corvette, 1999 etc) but most of the rest I could do without, especially Sign 'O the Times. Definitely overrated. I find it hard to believe his net worth is comparable to David Bowie.
