Pavement invented indie rock, then decided to go ahead and reinvent it again a few years later. When they got tired of reinventing themselves and their respective genre, they decided to keep it simple and coast on merely fantastic albums for a few years. They never wasted their time trying to live up to Slanted and Enchanted; instead, they just changed the game around it. Bigger, cleaner, leaner and meaner, Crooked Rain runs the excellence gamut, laying claim to the Rockinest Song of the '90s ("Unfair"), Best Diss Track Ever ("Range Life"), Catchiest Song of All Time ("Cut Your Hair" AND the runner up "Elevate Me Later") and, of course, every superlative that "Gold Soundz" fulfills. Nobody does it better.

What Pavement did to rock, D'Angelo did to R&B. Innovator, virtuoso, Greek God. D'Angelo kicks ass and has the incredible tracks to back him up.
