I definitely want to give this album some explanation since my comment on its page was downvoted and my opinion about this album seems to be in the minority when discussing it in forums. It's well advertised that this is Sunn O)))'s best sounding album since it was entirely recorded via analogue process and Steven Albini's masterful productions skills were utilized in the creation of this album. Most criticism of this album is geared towards the return-to-form style it has. While I admit it's true, the style of playing is less ambitious than Black One or Monoliths and Dimensions, it absolutely *works* for this album. The immaculate production makes the guitars more colossal than they've ever sounded. The little details, like the noise of their fingers climbing up the fret board or the strings getting plucked individually, only add to the enjoyment and monstrous sound of this album. I have a black vinyl pressing of this album and it sounds like I'm attending a live performance. That's how well-produced this album is.

I'd tie this with Life Metal. They're complementary albums meant to be played with each other and I can't mentally accept separating them.
