A work in progress, as always. Bit too early in the year to really get any definition from this just yet.

Best songs: Big, Roy's Tune, Liberty Belle
The post-punk revival continues, and boy is it producing some goods. Case in point: Fonatines' overcast, brilliantly proasaic debut. Covering all kinds of influences from new wave to brit pop and more, it's as eclectic as it is down-trodden. The world it lays out in its opening lyrics - the image of Dublin in the rain - has you captured in an instant. [First added to this chart: 05/01/2019]

Best songs: Green & Blue, On Twisted Ground, Don't Cling To Life
Enigmatic, with raw energy, and astounding power. The sheer tenacity and tangiblness of the pain on When I Have Fears is phenomenal. Some its tracks, like For Everything, skulk across your speakers as though squaring up to fight you. Others, like the achingly painful On Twisted Ground, hurt like nothing else. The composure of the record, and the deftness with which it delivers its textured, raw darkness, is an outstanding achievement. Every single moment is utterly compelling. One of the most essential post-punk releases of the last few years. [First added to this chart: 08/18/2019]

Best songs: Earfquake, A Boy Is A Gun*, What's Good
"I don't wanna end this season on a bad episode". God dammit Tyler, you really know to f*cking hit people in the feels. Musical innovation to the Nth degree; welcome to the IGOR-era, neo-Soul Hop playing the backdrop for one of the most enigmatic and accurate explorations of breakups and unhealthy infatuations I've ever seen. 40 minutes of pure musical magic. Best songs: Mariners Apartment Complex, California, The Greatest
The dream of California romance is dead, and the dream of California itself might be as well. As Lana takes us through the decaying world of the America and her many romances, she paints a picture - much like Norman Rockwell did - of how the country sees itself, and the flaws in its visions. The music soars in its sheer quality, whilst every track delivers endlessly quotable lyrics. A masterpiece. [First added to this chart: 10/15/2019]

Best tracks: Home With You, Sad Day, Holy Terrain
One of those records where you can barely catch your breath. Twigs has kept us waiting for this stunning, enthralling piece, and it's blown every expectation out of the water. It's Kate Bush crashing into Bjork, every romantic emotion that courses through your body when you get a rush of feelings turned into sound; tangible, all-consuming amazement. You have to hear it to believe it. [First added to this chart: 11/12/2019]

Best songs: Get Set Go Kid, Scrapyard, Déja Vu
Glorious, glorious indie pop with just enough political roughness to really enthrall you. "all aboard" takes you right into the setting of modern suburbia in the UK, with every song feeling like a different street of the town you live in. The healthy splash of synth-pop goodness is such a fantastic touch. Grim Town feels like youthful disenfranchisement, following the trend of many records from the indie and alternative scene of the UK for the last few years. Where it differs, however, is the brightness of its melancholiness, the twinkle of its synths and dreaminess of those echoey vocals. An instant hit for me. [First added to this chart: 05/05/2019]

Best songs: SUAGR, BOY BYE, IF YOU PRAY RIGHT
Brockhampton have had a tough year, but this was worth the grit. The group are more honest and open than ever before, and it feels so in touch with itself. Still delivering the massive tunes as always, but their whole sound feels so much more developed. [First added to this chart: 10/06/2019]

Best songs: The whole damn thing!
Ollie Judge is one of the best lead singers around today, and that's an end of it. Often times, it feels like the whole album might break under the sheer force of his maniac shouting. And yet, it's never off-putting; Town Centre carries you with its slight craziness, throwing in synth trumpets and new-wave basslines into the mix to create the most artful post-punk release in years. Best songs: Exits, On The Luna, Sunday
The world is dying, and Foals are begging for some answers. As a sonic conceputlisation of the fear that climate change, erratic politics and an ever-breaking society create, this is spine-tingling and fully immersing. Their best work to date? Without question. [First added to this chart: 10/24/2019]
