This could have been recorded in the eighties. Superb vocals with the ever present synth textures providing what sounds like minimalistic foundations to the tracks, but that is the clever bit... [First added to this chart: 05/08/2023]

Considering that my memories of the Monkees had been heavily influenced by that rather silly TV series which did nothing for their credibility in my opinion, where three rather dorky guys with a lead singer who looked like he should be back in junior school played the fool and a lot of music which was allegedly written for them, I admit I am very pleasantly surprised by this album. If this had been released in the Summer of Love it would have been up there with the best of them, whether intended , I hear psychedelic leanings. [First added to this chart: 08/30/2021]

It's a very good album. I miss the flute and swirling keyboard textures but hey, things have to move on.
It will be interseting to see the direction the band takes next.

Radiohead are like the musical version of Cold War espionage thrillers aka the Ipcress File and Funeral In Berlin. If you don't know what the hell i'm talking about you have some catching up to do. I have two other Radiohead albums, OK Comuter and Kid A, however my favourite track over the three albums is 'Burn the Witch', the upbeat feel to the track and superb synth string textures lay the foundation for some of the best vocal I have heard on a Radiohead track. The rest of the album has taken three or four listens for me to really get into it. Over time I see this rising to be another classic comparable to Kid A. [First added to this chart: 08/07/2021]

Great 'modern prog' album. That very unique VDG sound is still there.

A good introduction to some different Psychedelia from around the world. I bought this for the Sitar elements which add to the atmosphere. A good taster for any of the albums in this series. [First added to this chart: 08/30/2021]

I bought this because I thought I should have a Kiss album in my collection, kind of an impulsive purchase really. The mix is muddy, the vocals are too low in the mix, the drums sound like they are in a different room, is there a bass drum? I think I need to listen to it more, it isn't quite what I was expecting, bit disappointing really. On the back of this will not buy any other Kiss material. Lesson learned, don't always follow impulse... [First added to this chart: 12/31/2023]
