Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 71.2/100, a mean average of 69.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 70.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 18.9.

Trivia question: Between A) Paul McCartney, B) the Rolling Stones, C) the Beach Boys, and D) the Monkees, who put out the best music during the 2010s? The answer, as no one would have predicted, is D.
Considering that my memories of the Monkees had been heavily influenced by that rather silly TV series which did nothing for their credibility in my opinion, where three rather dorky guys with a lead singer who looked like he should be back in junior school played the fool and a lot of music which was allegedly written for them, I admit I am very pleasantly surprised by this album. If this had been released in the Summer of Love it would have been up there with the best of them, whether intended , I hear psychedelic leanings.
This album was actually surprisingly good!
I love the Monkees, always have done, my favourite 60's band. Approached this with some trepidation but....the majority of the album is authentic Monkees music that could have come from their first four albums. I can't stop listening to it presently....You Bring The Summer, and Me and Magdalena are currently my two standout tracks among an album of many. The best Monkees album bar Head for me and that makes me a happy man....
A damned good album. This had to overcome a lot of cynicism on my part.
Odd strategy, producing some of your best work at this late stage in your career. Good work, boys.
