The first truly great album of the year, chronologically speaking, as far as I'm concerned. A brew of influences perfectly digested, and digestible, at the service of inspired songs. The D'Addario Brothers' fourth one is their best so far.

A new Rolling Stones album after 18 years (discounting the excellent collection of blues covers "Blue and lonesome" in 2016) ! And the first one ever without drummer Charlie Watt who passed away in August 2021. So, is it any good? My answer is a resounding YES. Modern sounding while still being pure Rolling Stones, punchy, vibrant, energetic, eclectic... From Stonesy disco to rootsy folk-blues via rock'n'roll, gospel ballad, punk-rock, catchy pop à la Rolling Stones,... At 80, Mick is in top shape vocally. At its feral best even. A plethora of famous guests totally integrated in the whole (Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, Lady Gaga, Elton John, Bill Wyman-yes!).
Good songs throughout. The album ends with a take on the old Muddy Waters' song "Rolling stone blues" (which had given its name to the band way back when) by just Mick and Keith, two 80-year old gentlemen who will be 20 forever. Should this be their last album ever, it would be a wonderful farewell. But, judging on this new release, I sincerely hope not. [First added to this chart: 10/23/2023]

Subtle, engrossing, addictive, stirring up bittersweet emotions while putting a puzzled smile on the face by its end. Vintage Blur in 2023, a miracle in itself.

A superb instrumental modern jazz album that eschews the trappings of relaxing ambient music to really deliver a work of melodic beauty, with a Pharoah Sanders/ Alice Coltrane/ Miles Davis vibe. Wonderful and addictive.

Surprise! Galen Ayers (daughter of the great late Kevin Ayers) and Paul Simonon (the Clash bass-player, and so much more...) team up on the perfect summer album for 2023, partly sung in English, partly in Spanish. Cool and breezy. A superb feel-good album, produced by Tony Visconti (and also featuring Damon Albarn).
