Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. Great idea. and those first 2 are like holy grails. I especially loved seeing that Anticon sampler here. Although the American Folk Anthology basically covers a lot of the same ground, I gotta suggest Revenant Records "American Primitive" collections.

You will probably enjoy the 3CD box set of "Nouvelle Vague - Chansons et musiques de films" from last year.
All I can say is Wow!!! I don't include compilations in my overall / decade / year charts & was thinking of putting together a compilation chart myself. Could I beat yours? Doubtful. This is brill & so much new to discover.
