Felt like I was on somebodies back porch enjoying some jangle they just wrote. Pretty amazing and happy someone put this together.

Few albums can claim to have told the past and changed the future. This one did it. Recollecting old folk songs buried in the dust of a past almost forgotten of the America of the '20s and '30s, this brilliant collection proved to be extremely influential and the reason of the folk revival of the '50s and '60s, the period of Joan Baez and the first Bob Dylan. It's like blues songs, but the arguments' spectrum is way greater, from ballads of pain and suffer to dirty old jokes to murder tales, diving you directly inside the lifes of these musicians. You could almost hear the wind blowing and sweeping the wide and open reaches of America, between poverty and dried rolling bushes, except that this isn't western music! It's a classic, it's history.

Wonderful collection of obscure American Blues and Hillbilly music (which, thankfully bears little resemblance to the sound of "folk" music since the 1960's... so don't let the title scare you off). Highly entertaining from start to finish. Recommended!
This is more than just a compilation of great songs. It is a collection of important works which collectively add up to a remarkable historic document. And the songs are great, too; tales of murder and betrayal, and many funny ones as well. This is, as Greil Marcus says, the 'Old, Weird America'.
