Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some tracks can have several thousand ratings)

This track is rated in the top 1% of all tracks on BestEverAlbums.com. This track has a Bayesian average rating of 89.8/100, a mean average of 88.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 90.0/100. The standard deviation for this track is 12.4.

The perfect combination of intense sections and softer parts, with beautiful instrumentation throughout

What better way to close the album than to have Samson bringing the house down on yet another old testament reference.

Well one way would have been to choose a better track - but this one's OK.

"Gouge Away" used to be a bit of a unmemorable throwaway track in my mind, but I've come to recognize is as a perfect way to end Doolittle and one of the better songs on the album. Which is, of course, saying something, since Doolittle is one of the greatest alternative rock albums ever made.

Initially slightly jarring as a final track, but eventually grows on you as one of the best on the album. Incredible bass and background vocals from Kim Deal.

A lot of space in the songs that is not that special. But the chorus is enough for me. And it sounds throughout the song like something is about to happen.
