Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some tracks can have several thousand ratings)
This track is rated in the top 1% of all tracks on BestEverAlbums.com. This track has a Bayesian average rating of 87.8/100, a mean average of 87.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 88.7/100. The standard deviation for this track is 14.0.

FI is generally my least favorite Tool because almost all of the songs are more on the prog side, while I prefer the loud, intense, heavy tracks in Tool's catalogue. This track really stands out to me as one of the best songs Tool's done. It takes elements from the both the prog side and the heavy side and blends them together. As long as it is, there's not a bland moment.
Holy shit, this might be my favorite song on the album. It's REAL close between this & Pneuma. It's funny because this song and Pneuma are like polar opposites. Pneuma is laid back, relaxing, and calm. Meanwhile this... I've never seen a song that matches its title so perfectly. This song feels like the rapture has begun, worldwide chaos. So basically the world we live in currently. If the guitar solos on Descending sounded like angels having a conversation, the guitar solos on THIS sound like the screamings of millions of tortured souls sentenced to eternal suffering in hell. This song is just a hurricane of fury and anger that last for 15 minutes but feels like 5. I say it one last time: fucking stunning
Ok seriously HOW DOES THIS ONLY HAVE AN 87???
Best song by tool
Possibly track of the year
I thought musicians were supposed to slow down as they get older but Adam Jones seems to be doing the opposite lol.
Here's something I found interesting: there's a rhythmic pattern that repeats throughout 7empest seven distinct times.
1st (After "We know your nature"): 2:38-2:55
2nd (After "We know your nature"): 3:47-4:04
3rd (During solo): 7:43-8:00
4th: ("A tempest must be just that..."): 10:00-10:34
5th (Meshuggah-like riff): 10:34 -11:25
6th ("Control your delusions..."): 12:45-13:39
7th ("A tempest must be just that...") 14:51 - 15:09
Song of the year, and one of the best songs Tool has ever released
