One of the best tracks ever...haunting intro, manic drums and voice. Easy to forget Phil wasn't that massive an artist in his own right when this came out. This changed it all and he stamped his mark thereafter. (Edited)

That 2 second long drum solo is enough to bump my rating up 10 points.
Iconic. Easily one of the top 10 most important tracks of the 80s.
Say anything you want about Collins ending up to be a joke of an artist, but these 5 minutes are amazing. More than thirty years on, it has proved itself to be a timeless piece of music, far and away from other forgettable '80s pop stuff.
Romanelli wrote a better comment than I could. Ever hear the Ben Liebrand remix? Not as good, or better. I can't tell. They're both good.
