Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some tracks can have several thousand ratings)
This track is rated in the top 2% of all tracks on BestEverAlbums.com. This track has a Bayesian average rating of 85.2/100, a mean average of 85.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 86.6/100. The standard deviation for this track is 12.1.

First time I heard this song I wasn't convinced. Coming from "Alone", I thought the rest of the album was also going to be pretty much a dream pop/atmosphere album (which it kinda is), so "A Fragile Thing" didn't initially scratch that itch. However, it has become one of my favorite Cure songs overall. That solo at the middle draws a lot from "Bloodflowers", which isn't necessarily a bad thing, and makes the whole of The Cure's catalogue feel more cohesive.
It's a song that goes pretty hard. Even though there are darker songs on the record, the lyrics here and the bass sound makes it hit very deeply. Having said that, this feels pretty much the "pop" song of the album, with a very catchy chorus line and a more conventional structure, compared with the rest of the material on "Songs of a Lost World". The bass line is just amazing, and the pedal note throughout the song keeps the momentum going, and when it pays off, you want more of it. "A Fragile Thing" is a song that talks about expectations in a relationship and the hardships it contains, and as always with this band, the sadness and despair inside can make you feel pretty cathartic, knowing you're not alone in feeling the emotions described.
Really amazing. Thank you for bringing more art into this world.
