Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some tracks can have several thousand ratings)
This track is rated in the top 1% of all tracks on BestEverAlbums.com. This track has a Bayesian average rating of 93.6/100, a mean average of 92.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 93.8/100. The standard deviation for this track is 11.8.

The ultimate isolation-in-space song. The production works wonders on this track and so does the marvelous Bowie vocal harmony that weaves through each chorus.

Simply put, a beautiful song and a beautiful story about wonder, purpose and alienation.
One of the most beautiful things I've ever listened to.

This song alone would make Space Oddity his best album. And to exaggerate slightly, so would every other one.
Easily my favourite David Bowie song. Simply beautiful.
I am a huge Bowie fan having got into him in the 80's and having to catch his back catalogue. I had Ziggy Live the Motion Picture before I got Space Oddity album, so that was the first time I heard the song. Thought it was beautiful and got a chill as the story unfolded and Ground Control asked "can you hear me Major Tom, can you hear...."
I noted a comment below about Ashes to Ashes being an even better response to this song and I must say I agree, but both are excellent tunes so I won't quibble
I love this song so much, one of Bowie's greatest achievements. Gives me chills every time.
Perfect. Just it.
I think this is his best song.
Makes me cry. So beautiful
