Post subject: Is it safe to pay for things online?
Like how easy is it for your money to get stolen? Has anyone ever had their debit card information stolen online? Can there be viruses on my computer waiting for me?
My family orders online all the time and has only ever gotten our information stolen at all twice, once on an identity theft thing and once when Target had that hack happen, but that was an in person buy. No problems buying online except stuff getting damaged in shipping, occasionally. _________________
Generally I don't pay for anything online with anything other than PayPal unless it's a large, trusted company.
Even if smaller websites have the best intentions, they can easily be unknowingly affected by a virus if they haven't set up proper protection. It's unlikely, but often better to be safe than sorry.
So it seems like paying online is not a good idea at all?
Use your own judgement. A lot of smaller websites will support PayPal because they understand there is the lack of trust, so it shouldn't be a problem if they support it. Also, nowadays it's pretty standard to have a https:// protocol rather than a http:// on payment pages for the additional security, so look out for that if you can.
If it's not personal, what website are you looking at purchasing something from?
