Clásicos De La Provincia by Carlos Vives

Carlos Vives took Valllenato - a music that originated and developed almost exclusively in the rural north of Colombia - and fused it with pop and rock to popularize it among young people throughout all of Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, and eventually Latin America. Composed of covers of traditional standards, it was also one of the first Colombian albums with the intent to have no filler songs, helping the market there shift from singles to albums. His international success with an authentic Colombian sound would open the gates and inspire artists like Juanes and Shakira.

I would have posted about Joe Arroyo, Colombia's first international star, but he was known for his singles and not his albums.

Snow In June by The Northern Pikes

Share The Land by The Guess Who

The Guess Who get plenty of recognition (although for some reason they have yet to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame) but this album has never really seemed to get it's due.

I'm Colombian/American, and it's nice to see Vives get some recognition here, he was and continues to be a powerful force in Latin American music in general, and although I'm ashamed to say I brushed him off in my early teens in disregard for anything that wasn't classic rock, I've come around to really enjoying his music.
