Yeah it's not like I'm sitting here tweedling my thumbs waiting for the first round to end, but nearly a whole month for the first round still seems excessive, and mainly the longer a tournament drags overall interest tends to wane over time. But since this is not the innagural version of this tournament (I didn't participate last time), I'll trust the judgement of others instead.

Looking at the thread from last year, week four in round one did have many fewer votes than weeks one, two, and three. I'm definitely open to making changes to the tournament format based on feedback, if not for this year, then for next year. It's a balancing act between accessibility to more people and a snappier pace. However, I would suggest the main cause of the decrease in voting in later rounds might have been people tuning out because they'd already listened to all the nominees and had no new albums to discover, instead of tuning out because the first round was four weeks long.
Anyone else have opinions on four vs. three weeks? _________________ Add me on RYM

some of us just lose interest after our favorites all lose out in rounds 1 & 2. _________________ follow me on the bandcamp.

I sort of need 4 weeks to absorb so many albums most of which I never even heard of before.

FWIW, I've listened to all the albums (I was nervous 4 weeks wasn't long enough, but I just put all my other shiz on hold).
4 weeks is ok for me, but I have indeed voted for all the button cliiiiickckcciingggs.

The biggest upset in round one was #32 beating #7:
Oil Of Every Pearl's Un-Insides by SOPHIE
Somehow that wasn't as surprising to me as the seeds would indicate. SOPHIE is just too ahead of her time, and in a way that can be abrasive to many.
What are your thoughts on round one? What was the biggest shocker? Which result are you most happy about and which was the biggest letdown? _________________ Add me on RYM

Sophie out is bizarre So, I'd be lying if I said that wasn't a disappointment. There were some really though matchups though (Mitski vs Idles was yikes).
Avantdale Bowling Club out is a shame, but I can't say I had much hope for it against Low.
Being said, I hope I'm not the only one sad to see Félicia Atkinson & Jefre Cantu-Ledesma go. It's a great release (and much better than both the artist's solo ventures since, so I'm hoping they rekindle again at some point). _________________ Submit Your List for BEA's 2023 Film Poll!
