I really enjoy this album. I grew up listening to the 80s radio and the 3 biggest singles on this album always made their rounds. My mom was super into these guys, Roxy Music, Tangerine Dream, and is really into ambient in general. There are some great songs on here.

Up there as an 80s classic and one of my personal favorite albums ever. It's so good I really don't even know what to say.

"Shout" is one of my favourite songs ever recorded. Every time I have a bad day, this song is always there to help me vent my frustration and feel much better.

The 3 singles are so huge that the rest seems a bit weak.

Yeah, great singles band. Though I've never heard an album as I always thought the non-singles wouldn't measure up so well. Same with INXS. I just stick to the greatest hits (which I really like). Crowded House is similar too (though I do have one studio album).

Maybe I'm missing out? Idk They just seem like the kind of bands where the singles will always be best.

I hear this sentiment a lot but I've never agreed. I think this album especially is solid front to back even though the singles stand out a bit.

Totally agree with this. I love Songs From The Big Chair, and as others have said the big singles loom large. But I think The Hurting is overall stronger, even if the highs aren't as high (though "Mad World" really should rank right up there with "Shout" and "Everybody Wants to Rule the World")

Mad World does rank up there with the other two according to the site. It's a little head-scratching why Songs From the Big Chair is so much higher ranked than The Hurting. For one, SFTBC has only 4 tracks rated 80 or higher; The Hurting has 6 (and that doesn't include the shamefully underrated Suffer the Children and the grand closer Start of the Breakdown, both rated 79). The Hurting has a consistent rhythm and flow to it that makes for a great album experience, an element somewhat missing from SFTBC imo, that ends up relying on heavy-hitting singles. The Hurting certainly is better in my opinion. Nevertheless, given the stats on the albums' pages, still odd to me the latter album is ranked nearly 700 places higher than the former. Seems they ought to be closer together.
