They came out of the ashes of one of the greatest post punk bands and, in the words of Garry Mulholland, as early as 'Your Silent Face' didn't stick to their Joy Division roots and carved out their own place
Barney gets bored with himself, and New Order's obtuse misery, and our expectation of it. So, he talks to us directly, like an actor suddenly stepping out of a cinema screen. 'You caught me at a bad time,' he cautions, ' So why don't you... piss off.' There's no question mark there, because it's not a question. It's an under-breath mumble, an offhand, frivolous rejection of our endless reverence for his group. From that moment on, New Order were New Order, three Manc lads and a girl who liked gay disco and had a hard-man heavy metal bassist that made them different.
I simply can't emphasize their sway on the '80s and how great their music still sounds today. Talking Heads are probably the better albums band, but New Order is the best singles band of anyone. They make songs you can dance to or meditate on and cry to.
I really didn't expect to see New Order go so far. I'm happy they did so, because they are a truly great band. The only problem is that Talking Heads is da bes.

it's a difficult decision for me, but I'm going with Talking Heads, since I prefer the bulk of their albums over New Order's albums. But I have to say, Ceremony + Age Of Consent + Your Silent Face + Temptation is nothing to mess with. _________________ http://jonnyleather.com
