It's good. There are some great tracks, as well as a few not-so-great tracks. Seems a bit too high in the overall rankings.

Pretty much this. One of the few U2 albums that I actually quite like to any extent, but still has quite a bit of "totally unacceptable" material

It's nothing too inspiring, but I enjoy Zoo Station, and One is a great track.
Can anyone who claims to hate it actually justify why? Seems to me like people just want something to hate.

Yeah, yeah, I know but I do have a soft spot for this one. It just came along at the right time for me. I still remember the first time I heard The Fly on the radio and being totally blown away by it.
I admit listening to the album now is a bit like bumping into an old flame, thinking she hasn't aged so well but still getting a kick out of remembering some of the crazy times you had together.

I liked it when I listened to it the last time. It's not my favourite by them, I prefer their 80s albums more but here are some great songs. I can imagine how 'futuristic' it could have sounded was then it came out.
I like the singles...Even Better Than the Real Thing, One and Mysterious Way ..I need a relisten though.
I remember Ultra Violet was similar to Vapour Trail by Ride, I think they were inspired by it.

In my opinion, this is the epitome of ugly songs mixed to sound "appealing". Horribly indulgent after the success of The Joshua Tree and made Bono think that he could do anything and his fans would eat up anything this had to offer. Much like Bono himself, this reeks of pretension. I can't even stand One, it's one of the most overplayed, insincere power ballads in the history of popular music. Can I just leave it at that? I don't to be involved in another rage fueled debate about this band. _________________
