Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 71.5/100, a mean average of 69.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 71.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.0.

Another very solid album by this underrated band, not a bad track on the album. But lacking the instant classics their other early albums have. My highlights are Dry and the title track
Not long before the houses in Devon and CD players came these chaps second outing. Often overlooked and without a status as a dud or cult classic, this album could be expected to be a throughly medicore affair. Well... that's isn't the case. This is Feeder hitting the deep end with a bang, a band with their rough edges brushing against their mellow side. 'Picture of Perfect Youth' shows a band who listened to a lot of Nirvana when starting out. 'Hold In My Head' is one of their loudest and also contaigously catchy. Something particularly noteworthy is that the shadow of their first big song 'High' hangs over this album. No 'Buck Rodgers' had come yet so the electric guitar with sympohny backing is what is sought after for the hit. The title track pulls this off spectaualy. An ode to days taken away by addiction, it feels like part 2 of 'High' where the person has taken things to far. Maybe I am looking too far into it? The album does seem very clincal though, like the music is made for hospital walls. 'Anesthetic' wandering the halls in sheets while 'Insomnia' rocks itself to an early grave. And 'Tinsel Town' that's the morgue and the swan song before twilight. So yes, this album feels like being under the scalpol. One which gets infectious guitar driven music under the skin... somehow...
