Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. I have the 2006 release of Boz Scaggs "Hits!" and it is remastered and has 5 additional tracks added. While Scaggs was a tremendous and often unacknowledged player in the early Steve Miller Band, his greatness was soon demonstrated in his solo work. A dexterous guitar player, his finest recorded performances are featured on this album throughout his career.

A better title would be 'Hit!', as only Lido Shuffle stands out here. We are not alone is a great track, but unfortunately I think of Kermit the Frog when I hear this version.
