Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 69.2/100, a mean average of 66.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 69.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 17.2.

While I would not exactly choose to listen to this album on its own, it functions as an amazing soundtrack to the movie. The instrumentals suit it nicely, and the vocal tracks are only placed where they can achieve poignancy. Knockin on Heaven's Door is of course a classic, but the Billy tracks are also pretty great and provide some nice shape to the soundtrack. Also, this movie is a worthy watch!
Il disco della rinascita di Dylan... ci lavora gente ( Roger McGuinn per dire ) che sa come ottenere molto con poco e questa è un'arte che io non baratterei col solipsismo di tanti virtuosi che si suonano addosso.
Dylan's soundtrack to Sam Peckinpah's, pat Garrett and the Billy the kid, in which Bob also featured in an acting role. The music, half of it is mellow acoustic instrumentals, and the other half, vocal tracks. Of the vocal tracks, the most famous is off course the classic, knockin' on heaven's door,an intimate death anthem, a million miles away from the dreadful bombastic power ballad Guns'n'Roses turned it into in the early nineties. There's other vocal tracks in, Billy 3, which is pleasant enough, Billy 4, and, Billy 5,(Bob obviously thought long and hard about the titles), and some la-la-la vocals appear on, river theme. Of the instrumentals, Turkey Chase, is fun, final theme is excellent, and opener, main title theme is very good. In the right mood, this is a very relaxing and enjoyable album. Not bad at all.
A good soundtrack to a pretty crappy movie. It's nice to hear Mr. Dylan not in competition with himself. He sounds relaxed and loose, like he's actually having a good time.
Knockin' on Heaven's Door and a bunch of boring soundtrack music.
Highlights: Main Title Theme, Turkey Chase, Knockin' on Heaven's Door.

It's hard to rank or grade this album in comparison to any other Bob Dylan album. It's a largely instrumental soundtrack album. It's a really good soundtrack in my opinion. The instrumentals are simple and beautiful and fit the Spanish/Western vibes of the film. And the production on here is crisp and clear. It's really quality.
The songs are good where there are lyrics. "Billy 1" is cool. LOVE "Turkey Chase"! Listen to dat banjo! And dat fiddle too! "Main Title Theme" and "Final Theme" are both beautiful and do well in expressing a specific mood.
It doesn't make much sense that "Final Theme" isn't, well, the final theme. The 2 tracks after it are good and all but "Final Theme" is the perfect closing track and is really gorgeous.
The album is very short. It also just doesn't feel really like a Dylan record. So in comparison to other Dylan releases I tend to devaluation this. Still for what it is, I really like it. There are some really great tracks here and there is no bad track at all.
Grade: 81/100
This is probably my favorite Dylan album... can you believe it... I couldn't either. I don't know if it is because he doesn't sing much on it, or what, but I actually enjoy all of it... every bit of it... hmmm, still kinda shocking to me.
