Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 4% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 76.9/100, a mean average of 75.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 77.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.4.

Don't get why this is so low. The production is perfect.
A prequel to Kiss Land, Abel ends his mixtapes on a good note.
The second half is fantastic
This is the best of the Weeknd's debut trilogy of mixtapes. You've got a heavy-hitting cover of "Dirty Diana," followed by the excellent "Montreal." "Initiation" is as dark and predatory as music comes, but as long as you're OK with the subject matter, it's a great song. "Next" and "Echoes of Silence" (the song) are nice, because it's the rawest and most plaintive we've yet heard his voice.
The reason I like this album the best of the three mixtapes is that the production seems stepped up a bit on this one, and it's more up-tempo. I liked parts of those first two mixtapes, but they also had the tempo of a funeral dirge.
And while I agree that the Chris Rock bit on Kanye's "Blame Game" was crass and embarrassing, I think the short spoken bit at the end of "Same Old Song" is actually pretty funny!
It's still pretty unbearable overall. It starts off well with D.D. which is a nice enough Michael Jackson tribute piece, but there are still just some awful tracks where he's still hitting these brutal notes like on XO and Same Old Song. The production is better overall, but still has major WTF moments like the end of Same Old Song (again) where he has this interlude (I guess?) that is just as bad as Chris Rock on Blame Game. As a whole, it's way better than House of Ballons, but still quite excruciating. I'm going to stick with Blackstreet's album Another Level when I need music like this because I think the vocals are much better than this.
