Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 72.5/100, a mean average of 72.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 72.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.9.

This albums takes everything that August does well and made it more refined.

A rather average follow up to the rather awesome August album...a long december the only song worth buying this for...this desert life is a far better effort

Recovering the Satellite's is their debut but a little darker and louder. This album also has more filler and less classics.

A Long December is the best known and would have fit perfectly on the debut.

Children in Bloom is and underrated excellent rocker and relatively heavy for Counting Crows.

Goodnight Elizabeth and Daylight Fading are other stand out tracks.

But too much of this sounds like the debut but done worse with less melody or like retreads. I have heard Miller's Angels before in many Crow's songs.

And Duritz gets whiny in his vocal delivery on his sad sap, poor me ballads that are written well but delivered annoyingly.

Poetry to music is a good way to describe Counting Crows and for the niche group of fans that love it, they deliver.

This band lacks creative diversity here and in the future.

It's nice. It doesn't grab me like August, but that album is fading in my conciousness as well.

It was a bit Meh when it came out but as I've grown older it has stayed close enogh for me to apreciate it in a different light. Another Horsedreamer's Blues is one of the most beautiful songs of the 90s...

A very good follow up to August and Everything After, songs are nearly as good and production is a lot clearer.
