Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 11% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.8/100, a mean average of 74.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 74.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.8.

Some very nice playing and very relaxing. It doesn't rise to the level of Blur, Coldplay, Oasis, or Pulp, but it is still quite good. 8.5/10!
This is one of those albums that I absolutely love, first time around, but not so much on a re-listen.
Very pleasant listen. Love Fran Healy's voice and the atmosphere of the album. Only criticism is the songs are all a bit too similar. Writing To Reach You is excellent. Turn is another highlight.
Un álbum infravalorado, sus arreglos de guitarra con tonos melancolicos y la calida voz de Francis Healy me hace escuchar este álbum una y otra vez.
Mis canciones favoritas; "Writting to reach you", "As you are", "Turn" y "Why Does It Always Rain On Me?"
English Review
An underrated album, his guitar arrangements with melancholic tones and the warm voice of Francis Healy makes me listen to this album again and again.
My favorite songs; "Writting to reach you", "As you are", "Turn", ando "Why Does It Always Rain On Me?"
Loved this album since release - enjoyed the videos and caught them during the 20th anniversary tour. Magic. Great catchy pop-rock.
I love good pop old and new.
What’s an album currently outside that deserves to be in the top 500? I’d argue Mercury Revs ‘ Deserters Songs’, Janes Addictions ‘Ritual De Lo Habitual’ and without question Travis’ ‘ The Man Who’ which truely is a masterpiece having an atmosphere all to itself that is difficult to pin point or explain
One of those rare albums which only seems to get better with time
I’ve been enjoying the 20th Anniversary Edition that came out in 2019 with a treasure trove of additional material and in particular some really cool covers such as “Be My Baby” ( Phil Spector ... boo hiss), “Baby One More Time” ( Britney) and “River” (Joni Mitchell). The expanded edition is essential for all fans of the original album
Damn, That song Driftwood is a fine, fine pop song...yes it’s mainstream and polished but It’s also totally irresistible!!!
One of the last great pop albums of the nineties. The man who, is a lovely record that Travis have unfortunately come nowhere near since. Beautiful songs in, writing to reach you, driftwood, rain on me, and, turn. Still, a hugely enjoyable album.
Some great emotional moments here. Fave tracks, Writing to Reach You & Slide Show, followed on my copy by a great secret track. Not sure what it's called but very visceral & aggressive, in a good way.
