Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 3% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 77.6/100, a mean average of 78.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 78.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 11.7.

Wishbone is a great band that never rose to the absolute top, but still this is fine stuff,

A bit of a dip after the prog brilliance of Argus considering the prog themes are less prevalent here for more straight forward rock, but still a good album!

I rescind my previous comment---Wishbone Four is just as good as the others in the first five Wishbone Ash catalog. It's just not as immediately punchy as the self-titled debut or Argus and not as crisp as There's the Rub, so it takes multiple listens to get into. But once you do, it's worth it.

Probably the weakest of Wishbone Ash's first five albums since it steers a bit away from the immaculate guitar work that makes this band so special, but it's still a high quality record worth checking out. Plenty of fun rock and roll on this record, though no songs truly stand out as among the band's best. A good album, but definitely check out Argus, There's the Rub and the first Wishbone Ash album for more consistently strong content.
