Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 71.1/100, a mean average of 69.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 71.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 18.2.

It's an excellent album from Mr Ritchie. With many hits, along with quite competent other songs, this is a definite winner. albeit not a definite classic
When I hear 'Hello' I instantly recall the very eighties video of the blind sculptress, which looking back was rather watchable and perhaps uplifting to an impressionable teenager! Beyond 'Hello' there are many great tracks on this album, 'Stuck on You' being a personal favourite, maybe for it's simplicity.
A really good 80's pop record.
Lionel Richie (one for the ladies) clearly his best album 'Hello', 'All Night Long' amongst his best work
How many people drunkenly sang 'Hello' on someone's answering machine back in the day? This guy did...
Super smooth.
Great album. Great album. I didn't know who was until I heard this album. Oh, God, Lionel. You've been hurt. You've been hurt by somebody, that much is clear. Who hurt you, Lionel? Who hurt you?
His most solid effort. Probably didn't deserve to win Album Of The Year up against Purple Rain and Born In The USA (as well as unnominated albums by U2, The Smiths, REM, etc...) but I digress. The only complaint with the album would be that the album version of All Night Long drags. The single is perfect length, the album version would've been better as a 12" remix or something.
Hate to admit it but I had this tape back in the day. But hey, the ballads were great for a slow dance at the club. And All Night Long and Running with the Night aint all that bad either.
thomas dolby, steve lukather, richard marx...and lionel ritchie -- this is can't-miss adult contemporary!! :-P Seriously though, if you're into this kind of r&b/pop from the 80s, then it's a pretty good album with no less than 5 hits. My main complaint rests in lionel's decision to sing more-and-more ballads over time. But hey, it worked for a while.
