Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 78.8/100, a mean average of 77.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 79.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.2.

This album is really beautiful. From beginning to end, you will be captivades by Sharon's magical voice, along with her powerful lyrics. This album proves that she is trully one of the best songwriters of her generation.

I randomly found the closing number "Every Time the Sun Comes Up" on YouTube and really enjoyed the unpretentious feeling and the humorous undertones of the lyrics. Also the catchy melody hit me, so I decided to check out the entire album "Are We There".
It soon became clear that "Every Time the Sun Comes Up" is a somewhat atypical number for the album. Overall the songwriting can hardly be called easily accessible and both instrumentation and harmonization are often surprising and exciting. On several songs I came to think of Radiohead from their golden period from around "The Bends" and "OK Computer" - especially with songs such as "Afraid of Nothing", "Your Love Is Killing Me", "Tarifa" and "Break Me" which are all among my favorites. Also "Taking Chances" which have a little Cardigans-mood is strong.

All in all, an exciting album that gives appetite for more of the same.

The album that took SVE from a liked artist to one of my very favourites

Simply wonderful album only just pipped by The War On Drugs for my number one album in 2014 and now included on my all time top 100 albums

5 years on from its initial release ‘Are We There’ ( no question mark ) stands the test of time and sounds as powerful today as it did then

Definitely her best album. Discovered her from the Twin Peaks reload a year back. Since then she's been in my top 10. Finally something Jersey can be proud of.

Another fine record from Van Etten. It's a great companion piece to, tramp, with the quality of songwriting still at a high level. Not totally sure about the drum machines though. Still, good stuff.
