Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 70.1/100, a mean average of 68.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 70.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.0.

This one sounds better year after year ......
Ambitious and sounds a little unfocused. There are some great moments, but there is a slight dip in form compared to previous efforts. Still a good album though
Good alternative rock album. Best 10 songs average is 81,2/100 and the album can get good 80/100. Solid album without highs and lows. Best songs are "Ocean spray" and "The year of purification" both 85/100, followed by "Found that soul", "So why so sad", "Let Robeson sing", "Wattsville blues" and "His last painting" all 80/100. Other songs in the region of 70-75/100. Notable are the count of 16 tracks and the album lenght of 75 min.
Miss Europa Disco Dancer is the best thing to happen to music.
Still biting lyrics, but they've lost their gift for crafting sharp melodies. Sounding a little bitter and tired.
Where are Epicentre and Baby Elian, tracks 14 and 15? Freedom of Speech should be 16.
What appeals to me most about this album is how raw manics it is. After having success with there last two albums and the millennium show they actually sought to damage there reputation and get rid of the "Ford mondeo drivers" as Nicky Wire put it. This attitude let them do what they want on this album. To me, this lack of restraint really comes across. It feels like a greatest hits for an alternate Manic Street Preachers at times. Magnificent album! Favourite songs for me are Found That Soul, So Why So Sad, The Year Of Purification and Epicentre
i have to say i don't think this measures up with some of the other manics stuff.. i remember getting a couple of their singles when i was younger (a design for life, australia) and the only song on here that comes close to being that good in my opinion is intravenous agnostic
