Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some tracks can have several thousand ratings)
This track is rated in the top 1% of all tracks on BestEverAlbums.com. This track has a Bayesian average rating of 90.0/100, a mean average of 90.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 90.8/100. The standard deviation for this track is 10.2.

STP really had a talent for creating pop-friendly grunge music. This stuff was made for the radio.

This staple of grunge has seen many a day of radio airplay - and for good reason, too. It contains this irresistible quality to it, a persuasive urge to lightly oscillate your head and repetitively tap your foot
It uses the standard instrumentation in the tradition of grunge and rock at large, and a driving feel. What's made it so successful, then, is the memorable guitar theme and Weiland's translation of a bossa nova melody by DeLeo into a Southern-style grunge rocker (it does even seem to incorporate a certain twang element in Stone Temple Pilot's execution).
At first, the lyrics "leaving on a southern train" might seem reminiscent of the song's slight association with the south, but it's most likely a metaphorical reference to a collapsing lifestyle. The lyrics reflect Weiland's disastrous habits with substance abuse, namely heroin, and how that addiction was destroying his relationships. Tragic, that such a legendary, catchy single is based on something so dark and depressing.
