Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some tracks can have several thousand ratings)

Dark and moody, the best track on the album.
After delivering an average opener on the previous album, Genesis returns to having a strong starting cut with No Son of Mine. It draws a lot of similarities with Mama, due to its dark tone, atmospheric keyboards, and lyrics describing the turmoil between people (No Son of Mine's being about abuse in the home), though I don't think it hits quite as hard, mainly because Collins' vocal performance is a lot more repressed. The choruses probably aren't as sharp as they should be either, mainly because Banks' keyboards sound a little too poppy and upbeat for the subject matter, but the rest of the track fits the feel greatly, and overall, it is a well-done song about childhood trauma and the fracture of a family. One of the album's stronger cuts.
