High quality consistent indie folk record w/ a few touches of shoegaze. No tracks blew me away (parts of tracks did) but I was consistently impressed all the way through. Most genuinely solid record I've heard this year. Not as transcendent as the peaks of 'Titanic Rising' but I can throw it on and not get bored or skip tracks. The "no one can be my man" repetitive vocals is the only thing I dislike about anything on the whole record and it's on an otherwise good track.
Bumped up my rating after another several listens. I noticed the average rating on this tanked from 83 to 79 as soon as fantano panned it. Interesting.

A gorgeous, consuming, soulful set of songs. Definitely gonna go down as one of my favorites of the year.

Mysterious, spacious but still immediately engaging. Nothing that smacks you across the face upon first listen, but keeps expanding little by little with each listen- the most fully realized and atmospheric musical universe of the year. Divine, just don't expect a first-listen knockout.
Following their sensational debut in the game in 2017 with their debut album "Masterpiece", Big Thief has established itself as one of the most important bands on the American indie rock scene. Since then, their rise is unstoppable with their sublime second album named "Capacity" the following year. This year, the quartet returns in good shape and we plunge again into the inspiring and overwhelming Adrianne Lenker's songwriting. This "Unidentified Flying Object Friend" is an unidentified adventure and an opening to the world. The indie folk of the Brooklyn band connects with elegance and fluidity and recalls the beautiful "In Rainbows" by Radiohead in his approach.

I don't get it. It's like the standards for indie music have plummeted so low that any even vaguely adventurous album gets crazy acclaim. This is just standard, nice avant-folk music. Nothing more and nothing less. There is a vision here but it isn't being realized.
I also have no fucking idea what the lead singer is saying 90% of the time and don't find her voice unique in the slightest.
