On a related note, I am currently fixing my xbox red ring of death by taking it apart and replacing the thermal compound and x-clamps and all that shit....if anyone's done this already, advice would be good. I do know basically what I'm doing, but any advice would be appreciated.
I tried this a couple of months back, it seemed to do the trick for a week or so but after a while the RROD returned and in the end I ended up buying a new console because I'd voided the warranty by opening it up. A couple of links which helped me make the 'fix'. Hope you have more luck than I did:

Well I have no warranty on it because I bought it used cuz I'm a cheapass, so I don't really have anything to lose by trying...
