Nice try everyone, but I have the ultimate record, the one that I listened to with my mom in the car all the time when I was little.

Schoolhouse Rock! Rocks by Various Artists

Check out that tracklist! Not only can you teach your child with the education of Schoolhouse Rock, but you can also have them listening to people like Chavez, Pavement, and Man Or Astro Man? Plus, Daniel Johnston who would be another great option because of his child-like nature.

Can't decide if these are just child-like or if children would also really like them. Might be worth a try though:

Friends by the Beach Boys

Even a song about eating vegetables on this one!

I used to work at a camp and had to come up with camp-appropriate music. Cared less about genre, but one trick I had was look at major pop acts on tour and see who was opening for them. A lot of times, it'd be some family-friendly rock band or something along those lines.

As an example, Katy Perry is going to be touring with Noah Cyrus, Purity Ring, and Carly Rae Jepsen. Never heard of the first, but Purity Ring a great electro-pop act (Another Eternity is an incredible album), and while I don't like Carly Rae Jepsen I know she's somewhat of an indie darling.

I'd then do a lyrics check to see if they were okay and if so, I'd add them to the list and be able to play music at work that wasn't solely One Direction and Taylor Swift.

You mean the album with the lyric โ€œthe dawn will touch me in a way a boy could never touchโ€, right? The hidden euphemisms and such are totally for kids!

Anyway, to answer the question myself I think Tilly would do well with some twee since lyrically itโ€™s probably a good point to expand from. Bands like Iโ€™m from Barcelona, The Boy Least Likely To, Belle & Sebastian, Tilly & the Wall (no pun intended), and others might be a good fit. I donโ€™t know. Iโ€™d need better reference points. Just be sure to read lyrical sheets before you decide, yeah?

Oh uh...ummm.....kinda forgot about that line. My apologies

Yes. Might as well start her on the road to respectability now, before she gets brainwashed by Rolling Stone and Spin ๐Ÿคฃ ๐Ÿคฃ ๐Ÿคฃ

Plus, by the time she's about 40 or so, it will be universally recognized as the greatest album ever made. So, if she starts now, it will only take until she's 18 or so to fall in love with it, and for the next 20-odd years she can brag to all her friends that she caught on before everyone else did.
