No Pocky For Kitty by Superchunk: I knew Skip Steps 1 & 3 from a fantastic comp album of the 90's which was called Slanged! (on the German label City Slang): recommended album if you can find it. Anyway I never listened to the whole Superchunk album and after listening to it I think it's one of their best: where can you find more upbeat powerrock songs?
One of my absolute favorites in the 90s, though I often fight with myself on if I prefer this one or 1995's Here's Where the Strings Come In.

I'm also doubting between those two: Here's Where The Strings Come In was the first full album I bought from them and in many cases (in those times you actually had to invest in an album: financially and with your ears and mind) these are the albums that stick the most on you.

- Pretty On The Inside by Hole: I'm a big fan of Live Through This and what this album misses in focus and fantastic songs, it gains in pure anger and btw Courtney Love was very good in that even then. So certainly also recommended.
Nice! I love those two album! All of Superchunk's albums from the 90s were AMAZING, punky power rock stuff! They always had more of an indie edge to them than The Posies. I love them both.
.Totally. Pretty On The Inside is an entirely different genre than Live through This. Instead of Classic Alterna Rock/AOR grunge, it was total noise rock/Riot grrrrl stuff. Totally check out early Babes I Toyland too if you like this.

- The Curse Of The Mekons by Mekons
: this album pleased me less than expected with fairly standard country intermixed with some also fairly common indie.
that's a bummer. this was in my listening queue for the year. I loved their 80s stuff.
Psyched your exploring 1991 with me! ๐

lol. I hear you, guys!. I can't decide between No Pocky, On The Mouth, or Foolish but those were the first three I heard. ๐คฃ
I don't think I've ever given Here's Where The Strings Come In its due. Will have to fix that.
Yeah, early Hole was pretty similar to L7, 7 Year Bitch, and Babes in Toyland; I like to think they were a big four of their own.
Completely agree. My favorite was definitely Babes In Toyland, but they were all good. That first Hole album does NOT get its proper due. It was really good.

First time I heard this bassline I was pretty much hooked on 7 Year Bitch...

Well in general I was not really into riot grrl at the time but maybe I should listen back to Babes In Toyland. L7 is to me more grunge/hardrock and I wasn't really a fan although I bought Bricks Are Heavy.
But Hole was really good and even not riot grrrl angry but just angry at the time of Pretty On The Inside.

lol. I think everyone bought Bricks are Heavy back then & then traded it right back in. Smell The magic is where it's at for them. But, you're right, they were definitely more hard rock than the other three.
