Up to the age of roughly 16, I did not understand the (english) lyrics, but nonetheless loved the music, the bands, etc. Then I understood some of the lyrics but didn’t care too much of the meaning, unless very specific, like Morrissey’s.
+ What I noticed is that simple lyrics look good in english: albums are acclaimed regardless of that (exemple : the Beatles)

There are some bands that I wouldn't like nearly as much if not for the lyrics. Usually bad lyrics can ruin a decent song, but they can also lift an ok song to incredible highs for me. It doesn't always happen though, some lyrics just connect with me and some don't, much like music. But yes, lyrics are pretty important most of the time. However I think I'd still enjoy some of my favourite records without the lyrics, and ofc all the instrumentals. Pink Floyd, The Smiths, Tool, Iron Maiden, Tom Waits, Nick Cave, and even F#A# by GYBE would be much less incredible without the lyrics imo. _________________ Overall chart
