This was really good. Hell actually great. My only argument is that even being around 44 minutes, it got a bit boring. Like some of the songs in this record aren't bland but kinda leave me hanging for more stuff.
Also near the tail end of the album, I felt like the singer left and Beck decided to join. Even I do know that it is the same guy.

I did like part 2 more cuz I dug the piano solo and bass solo (which at times nearly sounded like a cello... impressive).
I could see this being intriguing with a flight of psychotic energy... you are in your underwear at 4am and just had a massive cathartic moment and your face is flushed red and your jumping around your apartment with this astonishment of emotion in your underwear of course - maybe you just finished a book or a movie or conversation. Idk... that mixed with a busy morning metropolis... or a smokey joint, cigars, fine liquor - the works. It's life man! Zesty! But I wasn't there... I was like meh... imma sit in my chair and complain about 1st world problems like why the hell did I work 10 hours today and still feel like I can never catch up.
80/100 (I struggle with free jazz :() - I feel like I really like it for very short bursts, but the whole album... idk, I don't get the point.

Wonderful country album. For anyone that wants a contemporary for the time that sounds down to earth and could have came out earlier, like maybe the 90's or hell maybe late 80's, this is one of them. This describes rural America so well.
And I'm excited for the rest of the American series. As well as tackling the rest of Johnny Cash body of work.
Grade:95.
(2) I think I picked Ascension, sorry about that. Maybe Moanin will be a better jazz album. Also free jazz can be a rough mistress.

On this, my third listen, my opinion of Out To Lunch didn't change much. A great avant-garde album made by a stunning band, and as always I love the vibes of Bobby Hutcherson. It debuts at #98 on my overall chart. 85.9/100 (4.5/5).

This is the first Allman Brothers Band album I've ever heard. The only song of theirs I know I know is Ramblin' Man (and Zappa's cover of Whipping Post) so this was a nice surprise. I really liked this southern rock blues jam. It had a bit of a raw energy to it that I appreciated. I think I might have liked some of the songs to have been a bit longer and jammier though.
Baystate listen to Death Grips. Bottomless Pit is really good but Jenny Death is better, and has my favourite Death Grips song on it(On GP), so the double album it is.

HAHAHAHA, I just expressed my interest to travel to the UK, and now I'm going to say that I don't care for one of their most beloved albums of the past 20 years. ๐ซข
I get it. I know why it must be enjoyed by the people who want to keep it "real". This is an album for the people, and it is v e r y British, which is good, but it's also hard for me to get into it without understanding the experience, the slang, the history, and so forth. I also know next to nothing about UK Garage, which doesn't help. It has some moments that make me laugh, and some moments that made me think, but when I hear lines like "stop tryin' to shag the birds and fight the geezers", both of those terms being used ad nauseam on the record, I can't help but giggle a little bit with how silly it sounds to me. Which could totally be flipped back around and used for any American hip hop album with it's own slang and in-jokes. It would help if I knew how much was tongue-in-cheek and how much was serious. I can see this as a good soundtrack to a night of mischief with the boys; at least that's the intention it seems to give off.
I had heard the 2004 Streets album a long time ago, which is why avoided this one for so long. This one is better, but I can't see myself coming back to it anytime soon.
Purple, listen to Leo Kottke.

This is one of the few times I feel conflicted. Musically, I think this is great. It is ambitious and till the end, kept me entertained.
The problem then becomes with the singer. Vocally there is some sincerity. But at times I feel the vocals can get a bit annoying or at points feel edgy.
Maybe I will get over this hurdle later on, but feels like the big hurdle with me and the album.
Grade:75 could be an 80 or 85 but is a 75.
(2)
Chief I would say the interesting choice will be Lou Reed.

This indeed was one of my top 10 jazz records. I'll start it at an 85, but I could see it growing higher. It started out super strong on the first two tracks, next two less so, and next two less so, so I couldn't really initially give it something like greatest ever 90 or 100 type ratings. I dig the classic jazz soloists, the solid drums from Blakey himself, musicianship overall, and style is just solid. What I love and then get bored with is the formulaic feel of it. I just can't win somehow... idk.
2. I haven't heard any of those either and nearly chose Exile In Guyville- Liz Phair but if I were to try one out, it'd be Seven Swans- Sufjan Stevens because Illinois really grew on me, even if I didn't fall in love with anything else he did. Also Ugh? Care to embellish? I don't remember liking that album particularly either, but I didn't think it was garbage and others like it I guess.
